As many of us prepare to "Return to Campus" in August, the Virginia College Personnel Association (VACPA) is pleased to offer a two-week, "lunch and learn"-style webinar series. Each session is intended to help higher education professionals to develop (or deepen) professional skills as you begin a new academic year. What's more, these sessions will feature the knowledge and expertise of our incredible colleagues across Virginia. This webinar series is presented by ACPA's Virginia Chapter (VACPA).
Registration Fees:
Complimentary for ACPA Individual Members
$10 for Non-Members
Session Descriptions:
Wednesday, 7 August 2024 at 12:00-1:00pm Eastern | Microsoft Teams Overview with Meeghan Milette, Associate Director of Professional Development, University Life at George Mason University
Two questions for you: 1. Does your institution use Microsoft365 as their technology platform? If yes, totally keep reading! 2. Are you using Microsoft (MS) Teams to its full potential on your team? If you are not sure how to answer that one, you should DEFINITELY attend this session. During this workshop, we will explore the multifaceted nature of MS Teams and a few of the AWESOME integrations it has with other MS365 applications to maximize your use of teams and increase your knowledge of this dynamic, collaborative workspace. This session will be interactive, allowing participants to follow along with the presentation in real time.
Monday, 12 August 2024 at 12:00-1:00pm Eastern | Why Names Matter More Than You Think with Yibin Wei, Career Advisor, James Madison University & Saryu Sanghani, Career Advisor, University of Pennsylvania
Names are unique markers of an individual’s identity rather than just rigid lexical representations. Respectful and accurate name pronunciation is a central factor in creating inclusive communities. This session aims to foster awareness of contemporary name-based issues, including microaggressions and compensatory response behaviors of individuals with non-Anglo names in U.S. higher education settings. We also encourage the use of online resources for learning non-Anglo names to practice support and care and acknowledge the socio-cultural meanings embedded within names.
Wednesday, 14 August 2024 at 12:00-1:00pm Eastern | The Road to the 2024 Elections with Jes Davis, Associate Director & Tony Trimpe, Assistant Director, VT Engage at Virginia Tech
Join VACPA and Virginia Tech's VT Engage staff to talk about best practices and strategies on engaging students in the election. During this session, you'll hear about how to prepare for this type of programming and supporting students and staff in a high-profile election year.
